Endoscopy: Modern Diagnosis & Treatment for South Charlotte Pets
Rea Road Animal Hospital uses endoscopy to allow us to examine areas inside your pet's body in a manner that is far less invasive than surgery. The endoscope is a flexible tube that allows our veterinarians to view many areas that might need examination, such as
- Nasal passages
Your pet's veterinarian will insert a long, flexible tube into your anesthetized pet's body. The tip contains a light as well as a chip that will transmit video. The images that are captured are then sent to a video monitor so that the areas being explored can be seen clearly.
Endoscopy lets your pet's veterinarian visually examine internal tissues without using a scalpel. Many times, the use of the endoscope eliminates the need for surgery entirely. The tube of the endoscope is well suited to having instruments inserted through it so that we can remove tissue. In addition to its use in diagnostics, endoscopy is a wonderful tool for removing foreign bodies with a tool specifically designed for that purpose.
If surgery is necessary, using the endoscope makes a real difference in how invasive the procedure is. Instead of a large incision, in many cases we are able to operate by making a much smaller opening. Your pet will be able to recover much faster, getting up and around before you know it.
