Certification Through PennHIP & OFA
Rea Road Animal Hospital is highly experienced in using digital radiograph techniques to document the skeletal structure of dogs. We provide these images to PennHIP, a University of Pennsylvania program developing methods to lessen the severity of canine osteoarthritis, and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, which looks for ways “to advise, encourage, and establish control programs to lower the incidence of orthopedic and genetic diseases.”
Rea Road is one of the few veterinary hospitals in our area that is certified in the special techniques used to make these radiographs of hips, elbows, and shoulders for all sizes and breeds of dogs. The special images are used to indicate if your dog will be a good candidate for breeding or if there is an abnormality that may be passed on genetically.
Precise and specific positioning is very important, so we use general anesthesia when doing the X-rays. This will ensure that your pet does not move, is safe, and has no anxiety during the procedure. We are happy to submit the required digital images and paperwork for you to OFA and PennHIP.
