Adding a new puppy or kitten to the family is an exciting time and should be a cause of celebration. With their funny antics and loving nature, it’s no secret that pets bring much joy and happiness into our lives.
Just like human babies, puppies and kittens require special care and attention for their growth and development. In order to prepare for a long and healthy life, puppies and kittens will need to visit the veterinarian for check-ups more frequently than adult pets would. This is to ensure they are free from any developmental issues and also to provide them with the proper vaccinations they need.
If you just brought a new puppy or kitten home, the first thing you should do is schedule a first visit. During your pet’s first visit, we will discuss the following list of recommended pet care and veterinary services:
Spay/Neuter Surgery: Spay/neuter surgery has many benefits and is suggested for all pets under our care. The best time to spay/neuter a pet is typically before the animal reaches 6 months old, or becomes sexually mature. Benefits can include less aggression, less likely to roam, a variety of health benefits, and not contributing to the pet overpopulation problem.
Microchipping: Microchipping is one of the most effective ways of helping lost pets find their owners. The procedure causes little to no pain to the pet, and involves implanting a tiny chip in between the pet’s shoulder blades. The chip carries the owner’s contact information in the event a pet becomes separated from its family.
Vaccinations: Vaccinations help protect both dogs and cats against life-threatening diseases. The vaccinations for puppies and kittens are typically a series of spaced-out veterinary appointments.
