Charlotte Pets Have an Eye Care Option
Because you are with your cat or dog far more than we are, you might notice a change in your pet's eyesight before we do. Sometimes eye problems seem to begin suddenly. On the other hand, you may notice changes in your pet's behavior a little at time. Some of the changes and symptoms may include
- Sneezing, coughing, or drooling with eye redness
- Excess watering of eyes
- Eyes bulging or closed
- Avoiding light
- Rubbing the eye or rubbing his or her face on the ground
Rea Road Animal Hospital has a wide array of diagnostic skills and instruments that can help. Determining the cause of your pet's eye problem means we can begin an appropriate treatment right away. Common eye ailments include
- Corneal ulcer
- Eyelid abnormality or tumor
- Inflammation or infection
Some viral and bacterial infections cause inflammation and/or infection of the pink membrane on the inside of the eyelids and around the eye. Treatments may include flushing the eye, removing a foreign object, or prescribing medication.
For some conditions, such as an eyelid abnormality or tumor, surgery is the right option. We use special magnification and instruments on the delicate tissues of the eye. Just as we do with any procedure, we will discuss treatment choices with you, and make sure that you have all the information you need to make an informed decision about your pet's care.
