Practice Owner, Dr. Blair Smith, and her veterinary team have collectively made Rea Road Animal Hospital to be a truly family-run and community-oriented establishment. The entire team of doctors and staff are dedicated to helping all cherished pets and their owners who walk through the door.
Dr. Blair Smith
DVM & Medical Director
Dr. Smith received degrees in biology and Spanish at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She then received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at the University of Florida. Her professional interests include internal medicine and ultrasonic and radiographic imaging. In her spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys time with her husband and pets and likes watching UF sports—GO GATORS!
Dr. Allan Dozier
DVM
Dr. Dozier earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and his veterinary degree from Auburn University. He has practiced in the Charlotte area since 1986, with his practice now focused exclusively on surgery. Over the years, Dr. Dozier has completed advanced surgical training and developed extensive experience in complex procedures, including laparoscopic surgery and orthopedic surgery. One of the most rewarding aspects of his career has been performing the Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) procedure for cruciate disease, which he has now completed in more than 1,000 patients. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Dozier enjoys spending time in his woodworking shop, restoring old cars, tending his garden, or standing knee-deep in a river with a fly rod in hand.
Dr. Pat Gillis
DVM
Dr. Gillis grew up in Illinois and earned his B.A. in Asian Studies from University of Oklahoma. Following his service in the United States Navy, he received his DVM from Oklahoma State University in 1981 and later completed his master’s degree in large animal surgery at Texas A&M University. Dr. Gillis’s professional interests include wound repair, dermatology, surgery, and nutrition. Outside of veterinary medicine, he enjoys spending time with his adult children and his two pets.
Dr. Jennifer Bryant
DVM
Dr. Bryant earned her B.A. in Biology from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1990 and her DVM from Auburn University in 1994. A Virginia native, she has practiced veterinary medicine throughout the Carolinas since graduating from veterinary school. Dr. Bryant enjoys the diverse nature of small animal practice and finds every aspect both rewarding and fulfilling. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, reading, traveling, gardening, and spending time with her husband and their two cats.
Dr. Amanda Hairston
DVM
Dr. Hairston completed her undergraduate studies at Clemson University, where she majored in Animal and Veterinary Sciences and minored in Business Administration. She went on to earn her DVM in 2020 from the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dedicated to providing individualized and compassionate care, Dr. Hairston enjoys every aspect of veterinary medicine — from the surface-level complexities of dermatology to the deeper challenges of internal medicine. She is also a Cat Friendly Veterinarian certified professional, allowing her to provide a low-stress, personalized approach to feline care. Outside the clinic, Dr. Hairston enjoys practicing yoga, hiking, spending time with family, and cuddling with her fur babies: Addie the hound, Bruno the Chihuahua, and Remi the cat.
Dr. Emily Brown
DVM
Dr. Brown was born in Indiana and raised on the outskirts of Charlotte. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical training at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Her professional interests include canine and feline dermatology as well as dentistry. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Brown enjoys horseback riding and spending quality time with her family and pets.
Dr. Anna Pennington
DVM
Dr. Pennington is a Tampa Florida native whose horseback riding experiences drew her to veterinary medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from University of Florida, and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from The Ohio State University. Her areas of professional interest include veterinary surgery, nutrition, and behavior. Outside of work, Dr. Pennington enjoys rock climbing, trying local food spots, and spending time with her partner’s English bulldog, Honey.
